If you're looking to charge for registration fees separate from the cost of the class, there are a few ways to set this up on Sawyer. Depending on what you want to prioritize and how your fee works (if it's per student, how often it's charged, etc), take a look at the options below to determine the best solution for your business:
-
Set up a required fee for each scheduled activity
- Pro: This fee automatically charges to each participant signing up for the program
- Con: If they are signing up for multiple programs or come back later and sign up for another program, the fee will apply each time
-
Create an optional add-on registration fee that customer choose once per year/season
- Pro: Customers can choose to only get charged for this once when they are signing up for multiple classes (Note: if it’s a once per year per family fee and siblings sign up for the same class where the optional Add-on is chosen, the fee will charge per sibling).
- Con: Customers don’t technically have to choose the Add-on so you would want to double check that each student chose it via an Add-on Report.
-
How to set it up:
- Go into the Add-ons page of each scheduled activity and add an optional Add-on. We recommend calling it something like "Once per year registration fee".
-
Add a custom fee using our Fees feature
- Pro: This automatically adds the fee to each order
- Con: This is charged once per order, meaning if there are siblings then there is still only one fee, and if they come back and place another order, the fee will apply to that new order.
-
Set up a registration fee as a Membership and do Members only programs
- Pro: This option is very easy to set up and it means that customers must pay the fee to be able to sign up for classes. You can set up multiple memberships depending how your registration fee works (i.e. per year, or per certain number of months, per child or per family etc)
- Con: Customers have to purchase the membership first and complete the checkout process to be able to qualify for the member only classes. You may want to add verbiage somewhere letting customers know about this.
-
How to set it up:
- Set up a Membership.
- Then edit each scheduled activity to make it members only and select the qualifying membership.
-
Set up registration fee as a Membership (without members only classes)
- Pro: Customers can sign up for classes and the membership registration fee at the same time, so it can be considered an easier flow.
- Con: Customers don’t have to choose it, but you are able to see a list of members to ensure that the necessary customers have made the purchase. If they haven't, then you can Quick Charge it to their account.
-
How to set it up:
- Set up a Membership
- Pro tip: You can use the Company Announcement Banner in your settings to let customers know to purchase the qualifying membership.
-
Use Quick Charge (amount or membership)
- Pro: You control exactly who gets charged, when they get charged, and how much they are charged. It also is simple for customers since it charges directly to their card on file.
- Con: This is an entirely manual process.
