Sawyer partners with Stripe to file 1099 tax forms that summarize your earnings or sales activities. We’ve put together some FAQs to help you learn how to use Stripe Express to review your tax information and download your tax forms.
What is Stripe Express, and how do I access it?
Stripe Express allows you to update your tax information, download your tax forms, and track your earnings. You will receive a 1099 if your business meets the following criteria:
- Account is based in the United States (owners do not need to be US citizens) or the non-US account is for a US taxpayer AND
- More than $20,000 USD in total gross volume AND
- More than 200 charges
Stripe will send an initial email in November (titled “Get Your Sawyer Tools 2023 Tax Forms Faster by Enabling E-delivery”) which will allow you to log into your Stripe Express account to manage your Stripe Express account.
I earned enough to need a 1099 form in 2023. Why haven’t I received an email from Stripe?
If you earned enough to need a 1099 form in 2023, you should have received an email from Stripe by mid January 2024.
If you can’t find an email from Stripe, it’s possible that:
The email may be in your spam/junk mail folder. Please search your inbox for an email titled “Get Your Sawyer Tools 2023 Tax Forms Faster by Enabling E-delivery”
- Please check the email that was first associated with your Sawyer account. You can also log in and click on the profile button on the top right and go to Users & Permissions to see what other owner or admin emails are associated with your account.
The email address associated with your Sawyer account is incorrect, missing, or unable to receive mail.

When will I receive my 1099 tax form?
If you’ve agreed to e-delivery you should receive your 1099 tax form by January 31, 2024.
Here are a few important dates to keep in mind:
- Between November 2023 and January 20, 2024: Confirm your tax information (e.g., name, address, and SSN or EIN) is correct via Stripe Express. Also enable e-delivery if you haven't done so already.
By January 25th, 2024:
- Sawyer will file your 1099 tax form with the IRS and relevant state tax authorities.
By January 31, 2024:
Your 1099 tax form will be available to download via Stripe Express.
How do I update my tax information?
Open the email from Stripe and click on the “Get started” button, which will prompt you to create or log into your Stripe Express account. After you log in (or create an account), you’ll be able to review your tax information (e.g., name, address, and SSN or EIN) and make any necessary changes via Stripe Express. Please update your information no later than January 20th, 2024.
Please note: You can still update your information via Stripe Express after mid January 2023 and download your 1099 electronically. However, you will not be mailed a new paper copy of your 1099 tax form.
When you are setting up your account certain information will be locked once a legal entity is verified. You’ll need to contact Stripe Support and they can assist you with editing the below information:
Date of birth
Business Type: Individual, company, non-profit or government-entity (US only)
Why is Stripe requesting my Social Security number (SSN), Employer Identification Number (EIN), or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)?
Your SSN, EIN, or ITIN is required to file your 1099 tax form with the IRS and relevant state tax authorities.

How can I download my 1099 tax form?
If you create a Stripe Express account and consent to e-delivery, Stripe will email you to let you know when your 1099 tax form is available for download via Stripe Express at the end of January 2024.
