Ready to run ads on Facebook? In order to track how campaigns are working, you must create and install a Facebook Pixel on your website.
Get Started:
You’ll need:
- A website with admin access. This guide assumes the ability to place a code in the "header" of your website. Your header is the framework where all of your pages exist. Anything that you put in the header exists on every page of your site! And the pixel needs to live there so it exists on every page of your site.
- A Facebook Page and Advertiser Account. If you don't have a Facebook Page, you can find out how to set one up simply and for free here. If you don't have an Advertiser Account, you can set one up here.
How to Generate Your Custom Pixel:
If you do not have a Facebook Page for your business or an Advertiser Account, please refer to the links above.
- Log in to Facebook on your desktop.
- Go to Business Manager.
- Go to Events Manager
- Go to the Pixels tab in Events Manager.
- Click Create a Pixel
- Click Create in the box that appears to finish creating your pixel.
How to Add the Facebook Pixel to Your Site:
Congrats! You created a pixel. Now, let’s it’s time to add it to your site. There are a few different ways to do this, depending on who updates your code and what website platform your site is built on.
If you know how to update your website’s code, read these instructions.
- Go to the Pixels tab in Events Manager.
- Click Set up Pixel.
- Click Manually Install Pixel Code Yourself.
- Go to your website's code and find the header of your website.
- Copy the entire code and paste it in the header of your website. Paste the code at the bottom of the header section, just above the closing head tag.
- Click Send Test Traffic after placing the code on your website to make sure your pixel's working properly. If your status says "Active", your base code has been installed correctly. This can take several minutes to update.
If someone else updates your code, read these instructions.
You’ll need to send an email from Facebook to your developer or webmaster. To do this, start by going to the Pixels tab in Events Manager.
Then:
- Click Set up Pixel.
- Click Email Instructions to a Developer.
- Enter the recipient’s email address.
- Click Send at the bottom of the page.
If you use a Tag Manager or host your site on a popular website platform, read these instructions.
You can use a partner integration to set up your pixel without having to edit your website's code.
- Go to the Partner Integrations tab in Events Manager.
- Select your platform or tag manager.
- Click Connect Account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your pixel to your website.
If you don't see your platform, then check out one of the other 2 ways of setting up your pixel mentioned above.
